DIY - Shoe Brooch

<< Back to DIY

Tools:
  • Austrian Swarovski Crystals & Pearls
  • Jewelry pliers or normal needlenose pliers
  • Fishing line or invisible jewelry thread
  • Hot glue
  • Something to act as a base - I used earrings
  • Scissors
I bought "Iris" by Benjamin Walk's Touch Ups to wear with my white gown (I had them dyed Lavender), but I wanted something with a brooch. So I made one. Here are the shoes before:

I figured the easiest way to obtain a backing for the brooch was to buy cheapo earrings. I lucked out and found some on sale at Kohl's one day by Apt. 9. Here's one of them. I impatiently took the other one off to work on it without taking a picture first.

As you can see, I took off the earring hook with my jewelry-making tools. I wanted a focal point center so I hot glued a clear Swarovski crystal to it.

Then, I took the invisible thread and started threading the mauve Swarovski pearls through the holes in the earrings.

I added more pearls and crystals to match my wedding colors and the finished brooch looks like this.

Finally, I threaded each brooch onto the shoes with the thread.

I LOVED the way they ended up. I showed my future mother-in-law and she thought I bought them that way!
It's just a subtle detail that only I will probably notice, but I love how it made my shoes look in the end.

Here is a zoomed-in photo of the brooches on my shoes underneath my dress. (See crinoline here.)
