DIY - Dance Floor Panels

<< Back to DIY

We love to dance and all of our guests do as well. (Maybe not all the same style. The Vietnamese guests ballroom dance and our guests, well, they break it down.) Knowing this, I wanted to emphasize our 24' by 24' dance floor, so we bought fabric lanterns from Vietnam and I made chiffon panels to hang above.

Tools:
  • Fabric. I made mine approximately 3.5' by 4'.
  • Fabric glue
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Sewing Machine
  • Wooden dowel rods
It was easy.

The best advice I could give on making chiffon panels was to use the fabric glue (iron-on kind). This prevented the headaches from potentially creating wrinkly edges on the chiffon material. First, I cut the panels to the approximate size above and then I folded the entire perimeter edges over and secured them with glue.

There was extra material after ironing the glue, so I just cut it off the edges.

Then, I folded the "top" over (approximately 2 inches) so that I could use a dowel to hang the panel. I glued it secured, but to make sure it wouldn't come apart during all the action, I sewed over the glue.

See? I told you it was easy. All done.

DIY in Action

I made 8 of each color. They didn't end up using two of them, so 14 panels over a 24' by 24' dancefloor was perfect with the lanterns. Here is a picture one of our friends took of the room. The panels are hanging above.
