DIY - Escord Cards

• Fiskars Straight Edge Paper Trimmer
• Ruler/measuring board
• Rubber cement
• Pen/marker of your choice
• Rhinestones with adhesive backing

• Lavender metallic text paper from paperandmore.com

I searched for-EVER for escort card holders that matched our theme. Any Asian inspired holders were ehh, not quite right. They had brocade coin purses and bamboo holders, but they didn't fit. One day, Donny said, "Wouldn't it be cool if we had a lucky Buddha holding up the cards?"

I am marrying a genius. I actually searched Buddha holder and there it was! Little silver holders from MyWeddingFavors.com (no longer available there - they just have red ones now). They were so cute; I was sold.

The next step was to make the escort cards themselves. I like to TRY to think ahead and when I planned the cards, I assumed that I would be making last minute changes to where people would sit. The best way to ease the pain of moving people around was to have names on envelopes and cards inserted that identified the table number. [Note] I made the envelopes larger so that the holder could grip the envelope and the insert could easily be pulled out without having to remove it entirely from the holder. [/Note]

First, I cut 8.5" by 11" paper into quarters.


Then, I cut and folded the paper as shown. I folded on the bold lines first, then I cut on the red, dashed lines.






Then I flipped each envelope such that the folds were on the table and brushed rubber cement along the length of the wide flap.


I flipped it over and applied rubber cement along the length of the thinner flap.


The secret to rubber cement is to let is dry!


Once dried, I folded the wide flap in first (the glue is now facing up after the fold), then I folded the thinner flap along the pre-fold line. The glue lines should meet and adhere.




The same steps were applied to the last one-inch flap. Glue. Glue. Dry. Adhere. Then I wrote the guests' names on the front side and made business card sized inserts. These were made a quarted inch thinner than the envelope so guests could easily pull their table assignments in and out without having to unclip the envelope from the little Buddha. Here's my John Smith sample (I added a little rhinestone to each card for fun):




I think they're cute anyway. For the cards that were stuck inside of the envelope, I made them approximately business card sized with this template and printed them on the cardstock.


Then, I cut them out on the rotary trimmer.


Then I cut more. I rounded the corners after I took this picture.
