Tools:
- Austrian Swarovski Crystals & Pearls
- Jewelry pliers or normal needlenose pliers
- Fishing line or invisible jewelry thread
- Hot glue
- Something to act as a base – I used earrings
- Scissors
I bought "Iris" by Benjamin Walk’s Touch Ups to wear with my white gown (I had them dyed Lavender), but I wanted something with a brooch. So I made one. Here are the shoes before:

I figured the easiest way to obtain a backing for the brooch was to buy cheapo earrings. I lucked out and found some on sale at Kohl’s one day by Apt. 9. Here’s one of them. I impatiently took the other one off to work on it without taking a picture first.

As you can see, I took off the earring hook with my jewelry-making tools. I wanted a focal point center so I hot glued a clear Swarovski crystal to it.

Then, I took the invisible thread and started threading the mauve Swarovski pearls through the holes in the earrings.

I added more pearls and crystals to match my wedding colors and the finished brooch looks like this.

Finally, I threaded each brooch onto the shoes with the thread.

I LOVED the way they ended up. I showed my future mother-in-law and she thought I bought them that way!
It’s just a subtle detail that only I will probably notice, but I love how it made my shoes look in the end.

Oh my gosh! These shoes are fabulous. I never would’ve thought to use an earring to dress up a pair of shoes. I also just wanted to let you know that I was Googling trying to find ways to DIY my wedding because I have very limited budget, but I am somewhat crafty…at least I think so. Anyway, I came across you page and I was floored. The things you’ve done are just amazing. You’ve given me sooo much inspiration for things in my own wedding. You’re so thorough with how you’ve made things. I especially love all the templates. Those help the most! Well I don’t want to take up anymore of you time, but I just wanted to say thanks for all the help!!! You’re awesome!
