Honeymoon

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

As I mentioned on the planning site, he planned the honeymoon as a surprise to me since I was working on most of the wedding tasks. I had no idea where we were going until the day we left (Monday, June 29 after the wedding). It stayed a secret the whole time, though I never tried to unhide the secret.

At the checkin station for Continental Airlines, I saw that we were flying in Cancun.

"We’re going to Cancun?" I thought that was weird for a honeymoon.

"No… that’s the airport. It’s outside of Cancun." At this point, I could not wait any longer.

"WHERE ARE WE GOING?!" The people working looked at me strangely as he announced…

"PLAYA DEL CARMEN!"

IT WAS GORGEOUS! He did a wonderful job. We stayed there for a week at the Secrets Resort where we spent our time relaxing, sunbathing, zip-linging, rappelling, snorkeling, exploring ruins, getting deep-tissue massages, and reading. I would recommend this resort to any honeymooners! In fact, their clients were all honeymooners or anniversary-ers. The food was THE BEST (Mexican – try the shrimp and fish tacos, Italian, Pan Asian, American, etc.) A lady we met told us that she’s been to many resorts and Secrets was by far the best service and food.

It was perfect and we met many great couples who shared our wedding date! Here are some of our favorite photos!

Honeymoon Planning

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

The long engagement allowed me to slowly plan a lot of the wedding details… but poor him. I took his binder (yes! he actually had one for planning the venue) and left him with nothing to do. In lieu of giving him artsy-fartsy tasks such as tying ribbons and printing invitations, he planned our honeymoon as a surprise to me!

It doesn't matter where we are as long as we're together

It is all set, so I am just waiting until the morning we get on the plane to find out where our honeymoon will be! He has not told a soul and I can honestly say I have not tried to snoop. It is a lot more fun this way!

What better way to celebrate my birthday than to have it be a surprise engagement party for all of our friends on the evening of the proposal!

The Proposal Story

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

This is the original count of the proposal story from her point of view. Click here to see the photo gallery of that night.

On Saturday, August 25, 2007, he wanted to take me out to an early dinner for my 23rd birthday and to celebrate our two years together before all of our guests got into town. We went to Bistro Bella Vita (where he took me on our first date), at 4:30PM and found out that they didn’t even open until 5 on Saturdays. So we waited, hehe. After 20 minutes, we were seated at the booth right next to the booth that we were in on our first date. He had the Atlantic Salmon with a glass of Buchli Station Pinot Noir and I had the Duck Two Ways with a glass of Trefethen Merlot. We shared each other’s plate (I know I know, *gag*) and enjoyed reminiscent conversation about how nearly two years ago, we were sitting there and he was describing to me what a pharmeceuticals sales rep does. The food was impeccable. We couldn’t have picked better birthday dishes.

We each ate half of our meals and he declined dessert to the waiter even though I was thinking, "I WANT DESSERT!" After dinner, we were scheduled to go to Monte’s at 6PM so that he could give them a credit card number to start some bottles for my VIP birthday party later. When we got there, Nick, the general manager, opened the door to let us in. I was confused as to how we knew we were there and why he even opened the door for us that way. The club looked so different in the daylight compared to how we normally see it–at night. I met Heather, their promoter, who was there to collect his credit card information, but to my surprise, Jeremy, our favorite Monte’s bartender, was also standing there. (more…)
